Lorraine Michelle Nisbet is a native born and raised in San Diego, CA. Lorraine is fluent in Spanish and is a military spouse (USMC) and mother of four children (one of whom is a brain cancer survivor).
Lorraine’s real life experiences give her a unique perspective to cases and assist her in ensuring a client’s best interest is kept close to heart. Lorraine understands the unique challenges that often arise in families with disabilities. Lorraine is a staunch advocate for disability rights, access, inclusion and ensuring that every member of society has the opportunity to rise to their full potential. Said advocacy has resulted in numerous litigation matters filed in both State and federal court.
Lorraine believes that every one of us has the power to contribute in a positive manner in our communities. For Lorraine, her ability to give a voice to those who would normally not otherwise have a voice in the legal system is key. Lorraine is passionate, dedicated and motivated to make the world a better place, one case at a time.
Education and Awards
In 2002, Lorraine earned her Bachelors of Arts in Public Administration (with special distinction) from San Diego State University, San Diego, CA. During undergrad, Lorraine made the Dean’s List (Spring 2001) and was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Academic Distinction In Public Administration (Spring 2002). Lorraine is a member of Pi Alpha Alpha, a National Honor Society for Public Affairs & Administration.
In 2008, Lorraine earned her juris doctorate from California Western School of Law. While in law school, Lorraine placed second in her Legal Skills II Oral Argument Competition (Summer 2005), made the Dean’s List the Spring of 2006, earned an Award of Academic Achievement in Employment Law – Highest Grade in Class (Spring 2006), and earned an Award of Academic Achievement in Insurance Law and Litigation – Highest Grade in Class (Fall 2007). Lorraine successfully took and passed the July, 2008 bar (only a month after having given birth to her third child).
In 2011, Lorraine was a journalist for the SDCBA New Lawyers Division publication, For the Record, Features Column. In 2012, Lorraine received the Time Warner Cable Best Mom Award. In 2014, Lorraine was awarded the Committed & Engaged Spouse Award, by the 3rd MAW General of the United States Marine Corps. for her dedication to her family, career and volunteer service with the Marine Corps.
Lorraine has 20 years of legal experience. Prior to becoming an attorney, Lorraine was a legal secretary and paralegal for 9 years for various San Diego law firms (small and large; Plaintiff and defense). While in law school, Lorraine interned with the United States Attorneys Office, Civil Division (Spring 2007) and the City of Chula Vista City Attorney’s Office (2007).
Upon passing the bar, Lorraine opened her general civil litigation practice which included cases such as: family, employment, landlord tenant, harassment, business, bankruptcy, real estate and construction, administrative law, special education, and government tort claims. Lorraine has handled hundreds of matters, including experience with civil (state and federal) trial practice and has made a significant number of court appearances. Lorraine brings a vast array of knowledge to The Real League of Justice which only broadens the scope of issues the firm can assist clients with.
Lorraine is licensed in California and has an application pending with the State Bar of Arizona.
Lorraine’s hobbies include acrylic painting and running. Lorraine has run 4 half-marathons (San Diego Half, San Diego Rock and Roll Half (twice), Raleigh NC Rock and Roll Half) and scores of 5ks. Lorraine’s latest hobby is cosplaying as Donna Troy with her law partner, Victoria Ikerd-Schreiter aka Wonder Woman is Real. Lorraine has also won a chili cook off.
